Healthy Ageing: Why Growing Older Doesn’t Have to Mean Decline

Is it really normal to feel worse as we grow older? Or have we simply forgotten what healthy ageing can look like?

I’ve heard it more times than I can count: "Well, it’s just part of getting older."Aches, pains, foggy brain, digestive issues, fatigue – all waved away with that one little phrase. But what if it isn’t actually true?

I’m here to challenge that belief.

At 30, I had bad skin, constant allergies, low energy, asthma, and gut issues. I was struggling. But now at 50, I have none of those problems. I feel better in my body, have more energy, and experience greater clarity than I did two decades ago.

So what changed?

I stopped following conventional advice. I stopped the green smoothies, the low-fat obsession, the over-sanitised modern eating. I unlearned so much of what I was taught and turned instead to ancestral nutrition and deeply nourishing, healing foods. Meat stock, fermented vegetables, raw dairy, healthy animal fats, organ meats. Real food.

It turns out the body doesn’t break down just because it’s getting older. It breaks down when it's missing the essential building blocks it needs to thrive. And the good news? It’s never too late to replenish and restore.

We’ve been conditioned to believe that ageing means slow deterioration – more medications, more symptoms, less energy. But if we look at traditional cultures studied by pioneers like Dr. Weston A. Price, we see something different. Strong, upright elders with perfect teeth, clear eyes, and sharp minds. Ageing with vitality, not decline.

Dr. Price spent over a decade travelling the world, studying isolated communities who ate local, nutrient-dense, traditional diets. He found that these people – from the Swiss Alps to the Scottish Isles, to the Maasai and the Inuit – experienced vibrant health, strong bone structure, excellent teeth, and minimal chronic disease well into old age. As he wrote:

“In my studies of more than a dozen primitive racial stocks living in their isolated, native homes, I found practically no evidence of degenerative diseases.”– Dr. Weston A. Price, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration

These communities aged with grace, strength, and dignity. They weren’t battling the chronic conditions that are now considered "normal" in the modern world. But the sad truth is, these cultures are now far and few. Processed foods have reached nearly every corner of the planet, and with them, the modern ailments we’ve come to expect with age.

There are still a handful of tribes and remote communities that continue to live according to their ancestral ways – eating from the land and sea, honouring the traditional preparation of foods, and respecting the wisdom passed down through generations. Their health outcomes speak volumes.

Yes, some changes are natural. But feeling bloated, exhausted, foggy, or inflamed every day is not. Those are signs your body is crying out for support – and it’s absolutely possible to feel vibrant and alive again.

Sometimes it only takes a few changes to make a world of difference.

So if you’ve been told your symptoms are just part of getting older – I’m here to say, they don’t have to be.

You deserve to feel strong, clear, and full of life at any age.
